Sadas will apprise people about present threats: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan | Thiruvananthapuram News_INSIGHT
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the much-praised and equally-criticized Nava Kerala Sadas begins on Saturday, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan released an article to the media on Friday, explaining the importance and objectives of the public outreach programme.
The assembly constituency-wise outreach programme takes in a very special socio-political background.NavaKerala Sadas is meant to be a platform to apprise the people about the threats being faced by Kerala and how the state is resisting such attempts. At the same time the outreach programme will seek and record public opinion on the roadmap being readied for the creation of a new Kerala, he said.
Amid an adverse scenario at the national level, Kerala is moving ahead steadfast with an alternative development agenda. For that reason, many attempts are being made to squeeze Kerala financially and check its development and welfare activities. However, the state is creating a new Kerala model by nurturing a new knowledge society.
Kerala has undergone tremendous changes since its inception 67 years ago. Its human development index is way above other states while education and health sectors are on par with developed nations. It is a role model for states in literacy, people’s plan, decentralization, women empowerment. The poverty ratio has come down from 40% to 0.6% in the last four decades, he said.
“However, this is not the time to relish all achievements. We need to think aloud on how to take forward our development model. Nava Kerala Sadas is a means to deliberate on such issues,” he said, adding that the government was trying to chart out programmes to improve the living standards in Kerala to that of developed, middle-income countries in another 25 years.
The outreach programme seeks to evaluate the economy, society and plan steps to develop a productive economy. The next step of development should be decided by the public, not power centres.
This government will work only as per the wish of the people. That’s why the cabinet is coming to the people. It’s for the people to give suggestions. We are here to implement them, he added.
