GURGAON: Private and aided colleges in the state can now apply for new courses and subjects for the next academic session. The process is scheduled to be completed within the next two weeks.
The directorate of higher education has issued guidelines to the colleges. Only the private colleges applying within two weeks can start new subjects and courses from the next session.
After approval of the course from the directorate, the affiliated colleges will also have to apply for the same at their university. Colleges will be able to launch the course and call for admissions only after the university accepts the proposal. Presently, government colleges are out of the purview of launching new courses.
Colleges and universities in the state have been asked to compulsorily implement NE from the next academic session, under which these colleges will review the requirements of a new course.
“Under NEP2020, the students will have an upper hand in choosing their subjects – majors and minors. We will prepare a plan for launching new courses after a survey and research to understand the needs of the students,” said the principal of a private college in the city.
The colleges have to submit the application to the directorate, seeking approval for the new course with all the information – number of students who would be interested/admitted in the course, infrastructure and resource requirement for the new course, and availability of the faculty among others.
