
BENGALURU: Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru — the pontiff of Murugharajendra Bruhanmutt in Karnataka’s Chitradurga — was released on Thursday after bail was granted to him in a POCSO case against him.

Earlier, on November 9, 14 months after Sharanaru was arrested in a case registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, the Karnataka HC on Wednesday had granted him conditional bail.The seer of the influential Lingayat mutt had been in judicial custody since Sept 2, 2022, following his arrest on the basis of a complaint lodged on behalf of the two minor girls.
