BENGALURU: A nine-month-old baby girl and her 23-year-old mother died of electrocution near in Bengaluru on Sunday.
The incident took place at Hope Farm junction on Whitefield Main Road as they encountered the snapped electric wire lying on the pavement.
The deceased are identified as Suvikshaliya and her mother Soundharya, residents of AKG Colony near Channasandra.
Soundarya’s husband Santosh Kumar, an employee of the IT firm witnessed both his wife and baby charred to death.
Though Kumar tried to save them, he was helpless as he sustained a shock. The incident happened around 6am when the couple and their daughter were returning home.
Dr Shivakumar Ganare, deputy commissioner of police (Whitefield) said, following the death of mother and baby, a case of negligence causing the death under IPC section 304A has been registered at Kadugodi police station against the concerned Bescom officials. “Three officials are being subjected for questioning. Further investigation is under progress.”
After preliminary investigation, police said, the couple had gone to their native Salem in Tamil Nadu for Deepawali festival. They came by bus to Bengaluru and got off near Hope Farm junction. Soundarya was carrying her daughter and a bag while Kumar was carrying a trolley. Soundarya was walking on the pavement and accidentally stepped on the wire lying snapped on the pavement. Both baby and Soundarya got electrocuted and charred to death.
The bodies have been shifted to Vydehi hospital mortuary for autopsy.
A case has been registered against five officials of Whitefield sub-division Bescom, including executive engineer Sriram, assistant executive engineer Subramani, assistant engineer Chetan and staff Rajanna and Manju.
