Maruti Jimny South Africa: Made-in-India Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door launched in South Africa: How much it costs there_INSIGHT

Maruti Suzuki India launched the Maruti Jimny 5-door SUV in the Indian market in June 2023. Since then it’s been a success and now the company has launched the India-made Jimny 5-door in the South African market. The South African markets get both 3-door and 5-door versions of the Jimny.

The Jimny 5-door in South Africa is offered with two variants and a sole 1.5-litre NA Petrol engine with slightly different output figures.The engine puts out 102 PS and 130 Nm, which is 3 PS and 4 Nm less than the India-spec model. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The price for the Jimny 5-door in South Africa starts from R429990 (about Rs 19.5 lakh at current exchange rates). This means the 5-door Jimny in South Africa is close to Rs 7 lakh more expensive than the Indian spec.

The Jimny 5-door gets Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a manual transfer case and low-range gearbox with ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-high’ and ‘4WD-low’ modes. The SUV is based on a ladder-frame chassis and gets a 3-link rigid axle suspension and an electronic traction control system.

As mentioned previously the Jimny 5-door in South Africa is offered in two variants – GL and GLX. In terms of features, the SUV gets automatic LED headlamps, a 9.0-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry and go, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six airbags, ESP and hill-hold assist.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny measures 3985 mm in length, 1645 mm in width, 1720 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2590 mm. Jimny has 140 mm of extra wheelbase. Thar is 175 mm wider and 176 mm taller than Jimny’s 5-door.
