KPSC: Forgery Scandal: Fake KPSC Recruitment Letters Found in GPO Box | Bengaluru News_INSIGHT

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) seems to have stumbled upon on a fake recruitment racket by fluke: Simply by tracking Speed Post!
The drama unfolded when general post office (GPO) staff found 10 envelopes in the postal drop box of KPSC with stickers of Speed Post but without being stamped and signed. The postal staff brought the envelopes to the KPSC office at Udyoga Soudha on October 27 and handed them over, stating that the postal procedures had not been followed.
KPSC assistant secretary Raghavendra J, who received the envelopes, was baffled. He opened them to find letters with the letterhead of KPSC dated September 29 and with a notification number (P.C.R/A/Uka-1/C.V/2023-2024), with a directive to job aspirants for the posts of second-division assistant (SDA) to submit physical fitness and medical certificates at the KPSC office by October 31. When no recruitment of SDAs was happening, how could someone send letters to aspirants, officials wondered. On closer examination, Raghavendra found that the letter had the forged signature of KPSC secretary KS Latha Kumari.
KPSC officials suspected it to be the handiwork of fraudsters trying to cheat job job aspirants. Following internal discussions, Raghavendra filed a complaint with Vidhana Soudha police on November 11.
Raghavendra told TOI the letters were fake as the KPSC’s last-issued notification regarding SDA appointments was in 2019.
The envelopes had a sticker of Speed Post. “Speed Posts must be given at the counter and the post office staff will put a seal on them and send them to the address mentioned. They cannot be dropped in the drop box, so they were brought to our office by the postal staff,” Raghavendra said.
A senior police officer said: “We suspect a racket. We aren’t sure if the aspirants have already paid money to the touts. The envelopes were addressed to aspirants in Mysuru, Mandya, Madikeri, Chamarajanagar. If any aspirants have paid money to touts, we request them to contact on 080-22942590. We’re also making efforts to contact the aspirants based on the addresses mentioned.”
A case has been registered under IPC sections 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for cheating), and 471 (using as genuine a forged document).
