The Supreme Court has expunged adverse remarks made by a high court bench against a sitting Gauhati high court judge’s 2017 verdict in a terror-related case. The rest of the high court judgment will remain in force. Chit fund case: Jharkhand gets time from high court to challenge order in Supreme Court
The High Court of Jharkhand has granted the state government time to challenge its order in the Supreme Court regarding the return of money to investors by chit fund companies. A PIL was filed by an organization seeking directions to ensure the return of funds. The government intends to challenge the order of the bench on the formation of a committee and the return of funds within 45 days. The court will hear the matter again on December 6.
Pakistan high court issues stay order against jail trial of Imran Khan in cipher case
The Islamabad High Court in Pakistan has issued a stay order against the jail trial of former prime minister Imran Khan in the cipher case. Khan, who is currently detained in Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court ordered a stop to the proceedings and fixed the next hearing for Thursday. The trial relates to an alleged violation of the Official Secrets Act. Khan was ousted from power in April 2022 and has since faced over 150 cases.
