HASSAN (KARNATAKA): A 23-year-old man was arrested by the police on Friday for allegedly murdering his girlfriend by slashing her throat with a knife during a dispute, Karnataka’s Hassan.
Identified as Tejas, he had been in a relationship with the woman, a final year computer science engineering student, for more than six months. Both Tejas and the victim were graduates from the same college, where he was her senior.
Frequent arguments and fights characterized their relationship, exacerbated by recent revelations about the woman’s past relationship. Learning about this triggered a quarrel between them as Tejas accused her of concealing information. According to a senior police officer, the woman, tired of his constant interference, expressed her desire to end the relationship. She was distressed by his intrusive behavior, including checking her background and confronting her about her past.
On Thursday, under the pretext of discussing their issues, Tejas lured her to the main town and then transported her approximately 13 km away to Kunti Betta hills on his motorcycle. Another altercation ensued, during which he drew a knife and inflicted a fatal wound on her throat, the officer reported.
Following the incident, Tejas fled the scene on his two-wheeler, leaving the injured woman behind. Local residents took her to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The police registered a murder case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, leading to the arrest of Tejas in connection with the tragic incident.
