NEW DELHI: Making its 15th arrest in a case relating to the October 2022 car bomb blast outside a temple in Coimbatore, NIA has netted a close aide of the deceased bomber Jamesha Mubeen.
Arrested accused Tahanaseer, a resident of Coimbatore, had conspired with Jamesha and co-accused Mohammed Thoufeeq to carry out the bomb blast as part of an ISIS-inspiredplot to create terror and realise the global outfit’s aim to create a Caliphate.Jamesha, who was driving the vehicle packed with the improvised explosive device, was killed in the blast.
Investigation, NIA said, has revealed that Tahanaseer and Thoufeeq had visited the residence of Jamesha a week prior to the attack, during which they conspired to carry out the act of terror. Scrutiny of Tahanaseer’s digital device also revealed that he was in possession of ISIS inspired literature and had deliberately attempted to cover his tracks by deleting the incriminating material. He employed specific mobile-based application software and apps following the terror incident, to delete incriminating data from his device and evade the attention of law enforcement agencies, the investigating agency had claimed.
The probe also uncovered that Jamesha was deeply inspired and motivated by the radical ISIS ideology. Prior to carrying out the terror attack, he had sworn allegiance to ISIS by giving “bayath” (oath of allegiance) to Abu-Al-Hasan Al-Hashimi Al-Qurashi, the self-proclaimed Caliph of ISIS at the time.
NIA has so far filed two separate chargesheets in the case, naming a total of 11 suspects, before the NIA Court at Poonamallee, Chennai.
