Bengaluru: Karnataka Examinations Authority has instructed candidates wearing hijab and appearing for recruitment exams of various boards and corporations on November 18-19 to be present at their respective examination halls two hours in advance.
KEA executive director S Ramya said in a press release on Wednesday that there is no prohibition on wearing hijabduring the exams.However,candidates should reach their halls two hours before the scheduled time to facilitate thorough inspection.
According to the release, candidates will be subjected to inspection to ensure a free and fair examination process.
In an earlier press release on Monday, KEA had released a dress code that wearing a hat or any clothing covering the mouth, ears and head won’t be allowed but permitted women to wear mangalsutra and toe-ring for the exams.
It may be recalled that in first week of November, a candidate in Kalaburagi was asked to remove all her jewellery, including her mangalsutra, during the exam for junior assistant posts in audits and accounts department.

The scam came to light last month with eight FIRs registered in connection with it. The case files from eight police stations have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department. The malpractices were discovered during competitive examinations held by KEA to fill vacant posts of first-division assistants. Bluetooth devices were found being used by candidates to cheat during the exams.
